Powell River

On the Sunshine Coast of  mainland BC,  where the mountains, lakes and oceans meet, this vibrant coastal town is 88 miles/5 hours north of Vancouver via car and two ferries or a 1.5 hour ferry ride from Vancouver Island.


This Canadian Rocky town is located in the Elk Valley, 3hrs from Calgary, 4hrs from Banff and 10hrs from Vancouver. Greyhound stops here from Vancouver or Calgary. The Raging Elk Hostel says “Winter is powder time in the Fernie and the Elk Valley. Huge snowflakes float down from the heavens, blanketing the Elk Valley and creating our winter playground.”
