Budapest has an extremely comprehensive public transportation network. There are three crisscrossing metro lines, complemented by many trams and buses. You must have a validated ticket (270Ft single fare) for every trip, including transfers from one subway, bus, or tram line to another and transfers between each separate mode of transit. Day passes cost 1550Ft and a 3-day tourist ticket is 3,400Ft. The subways shut down around midnight but the city is well serviced by an efficient night bus system (begin with # 9). Day passes work at night, otherwise buy a single ticket on the bus.
