Rome is magnificent! Nearly all of the political and cultural institutions and customs of the Western World originated here. Today, Rome struggles mightily to cope with this immensely impressive past and the current demands of modernization; subway lines may take years to complete because every inch is bound to uncover ruins dating back thousands of years. Often this mix of past and present is fascinating, but at other times, it adds confusion and disorganization to an already crowded city.

Nevertheless, Rome’s magic is indeed alluring and enduring. It is an authentically Italian city harboring not just some of the most famous and historical sites and monuments, but terrific cafes, beautiful piazzas, vibrant personalities, and of course, excellent shopping.
