Once the centre of the western world in the Roman era, Italy is now known for great food and wines, for art and architecture and for glamour and fashion. It's hard to not think of Italy without the image of pouting designer sunglass-clad Italians flying by on their Vespas.
Jump off the network or fly direct and be a part of it. Busabout's 3 day tour can easily be squeezed into a long weekend with a day on either side for discovering Rome. You will spend two fabulous nights in Sorrento, nestled on the cliffs above the sea.

Day: 1 | Location: Rome - Pompeii & Sorrento

The tour departs at 8am sharp - please ensure that you're ready to go by 7:45am. Your first stop of the day is the fascinating city of Pompeii. The tour will approach the awe inspiring sight that is Vesuvius - the volcano responsible for the eruption that buried the ancient city of Pompeii, killing at least 2,000 people and burying them under molten lava and ash which rained down from a column more than 32km high! On your arrival in Pompeii you will be taken on a two hour tour by an expert local guide who will show you the secrets of this buried city and the lives of those who perished there (entry into Pompeii and guided tour are included in the price of the adventure). You can then grab a delicious pizza or pasta at the local restaurant or spend the remaining time checking out the souvenirs, postcards and jewellery on offer in the market before we get back on the road that will lead you past Naples and through the stunning coastal scenery to Sorrento and Camping Santa Fortunata; your home for the next two nights.

Once checked in you will have the chance to explore the gorgeous campsite, the pool and the beach (just a ten minute walk at the foot of the campsite itself) or just grab a shower before meeting back at reception ready to head out into the balmy Sorrento night for an evening full of local delicacies and a cocktail or two! (Bus tickets to town are included in the cost of the adventure) A walking tour of the beautiful main square, stunning coastline and main shopping streets will lead you to your first stop of the night – a free Limoncello and chocolate tasting, the perfect kick-start to our evening. Afterwards your guide will have arranged an optional meal at a local restaurant where you can try delicious pasta, fresh fish, tiramisu, local Solaro wine and, what the hell, another shot of ice cold Limoncello, just for good measure! With full tummies and a bit of a lemony buzz you can hit the town to some more bars. As your first night draws to a close the group will head back to the campsite, and you can let the breeze in the trees and the sound of the cicadas lull you to sleep, ready for a bright and early start the next day…

Day: 2 | Location: Isle of Capri

Day two starts with breakfast at the campsite restaurant and an early meeting at reception at 7.45, ready to catch the bus to the port as the tour heads off on an all day excursion to the stunning celebrity filled island of Capri! Your guide will give you all the info and top tips you need to make your day on this amazing island one to remember. Once there you will have the chance to take a boat trip around the island with an optional stop at the Blue Grotto; home to what must be the clearest most electric blue water in the world and a true must see for any trip to Capri.

On your return to dry land you can take the funicular up to Capri town where you can make like a star and browse the designer shops, enjoy a truly delicious ice-cream, have a meal in one of the many restaurants or simply satisfy your celeb addiction and watch the rich and famous in action. Alternatively head on up to the Giardini di Augusto, some of the prettiest flower-filled gardens in Europe, and admire the views of the crystal clear water below and the striking Faraglioni rocks - limestone stacks and natural arches for which Capri is famous. Alternatively visit Carthusia, the perfumers, and sample the perfumes they create on sight using lemons, oranges and all things Caprese. You can then take your sweet smelling self on up to Anacapri, the quieter, less touristy town just above Capri where you can find gorgeous lace dresses, the beautiful Villa San Michele and some lovely restaurants nestled in the winding side streets off the main square.

For just 8€ you can take a chair lift around Mount Solaro, the highest point on the island, and get some fantastic holiday snaps in the process! Public bus is fun and cheap, but nothing beats catching one of the open top taxis back down to the port and your waiting ferry. Grab a group of mates (they seat 6!) your best sunnies and feel like a movie star with the wind in your hair as you zoom down the sheer coastal roads back to the port, a truly unforgettable experience!! Once back in Sorrento you will have time to explore the shops and soak up the Southern Italian evening atmosphere before heading back to the campsite for an optional meal at the campsite restaurant – cheap food, great wine and fab people – the perfect ending to your second night.

Day: 3 | Location: Amalfi Coast - Rome

In the morning the group will drive the spectacular Amalfi coastline, past the town of Positano and with relaxed stops in Amalfi and Ravello. Admire the homes of the rich and famous. Chill out in a cafe or wander the beautiful gardens. Quaint shops and restaurants abound. In the afternoon you will make your way back to Rome. It is very important that you don't make any arrangements for leaving Rome on the last night of the tour - sometimes the traffic on the Amalfi Coast is very heavy and you cannot guarantee your arrival time.

The tour departs every Monday and Friday from Rome from May 18 to the end of September.

What makes us a little bit special...

We have a lovely team both in the office to help you with enquiries and out there on road, track and sea. Judging by the thank you emails we get they are building themselves a nice reputation for being the independent travel experts - they know you are there for a good time but don't like being herded like cattle: you can still feel like an independant traveller on a tour but only if you are given the time and space to experience things for yourself.

In some destinations we have expert guides from the country you are visiting, on others we have Trip Managers and Drivers who make use of a series of expert Local Guides along the way - either way there will be plenty of opportuntiy for that unique local insight which is so important to travelling.

Our accommodations vary from boat to hotel to tent - not all on the same trip, but with one thing in common: they are the best options available for the budget traveller. Our style of travel suits the independant traveller, so you can be sure that you are likely to have plenty in common with other members of the group before you even meet. We have people from all over the world on our trips: some of which are solo travellers, some couples and sometimes groups of friends.

The group dynamic is different on every trip - but you can be sure that you guides main aim is too build cameraderie and the group-feel. Cooking dinner together overlooking Chefchaoun or lounging on the deck of our sailing boats in Croatia is a sure-fire way to get that bonding going. Not to mention our nights out sampling the local night-life.
