Day 1
Start the day with brisk forest walk before heading into the Highlands where you’ll hear tales of clan rebellion and get your first glimpse of highland life. We’ll round the day off with a whisky tasting before heading to the Highland capital of Inverness.
Day Two
Time for a bit of Nessie hunting before heading even further north! Today we visit battlefields and ancient burial grounds, cross the Corrieshalloch Gorge and take in the beautiful scenery of Torridon before crossing the water to the Isle of Skye!
Day Three
A full day on Skye! The incredible scenery provides a perfect backdrop while your guide fills you in with the local folklore. We will hike up to one of the islands more distinctive rock formations, the Old Man of Storr. The views will blow your mind away!
Day Four
Waving goodbye to Skye we head down the west coast of Scotland taking in the Glenfinnan viaduct (aka the Harry Potter bridge) and the Bonnie Prince Charlie monument. We’ll re-visit one of Scotland’s darkest moments as we take in the haunting landscape of Glen Coe before heading to Oban.
Day Five
On our final day we will take in standing stones and hill forts of ancient Scotland before we make our way through Argyle and into the Trossochs National Park. We’ll travel right through the heart of William Wallace country where you’ll hear about Scotland’s fight for independence before heading back to Edinburgh.
MacBackpackers have now been running tours for over ten years. We provide extremely high quality, yet fun and informal, fully guided tours of Scotland, designed for young, independent, budget-minded travellers. Well over thirty thousand backpackers have travelled around Scotland with us so far.
As well as taking our guests to the top stops that Scotland has to offer — such as Loch Ness, Glen Coe, Rob Roy and 'Braveheart' country, MacBackpackers tours thrive on the spontaneous, showing-off the 'real' character of Scotland. We pride ourselves on exceeding the expectations of our guests, maintaining aprofessional but relaxed approach and ensuring that every tour is entertaining, informative and utterly unique.
Ultimately, we love showing people our country, and our tours are designed to ensure that most of the day is spent off the bus. For your comfort we use 22 or 29 seat Mercedes midi coaches.
In keeping with our company ethos and to give back some of what we take from our bonnie country, we take part in a programme of environmental projects such as, erosion repair and reforestation, in conjunction with local groups.
