Exploring Orlando

The Official Visitor Center is located at 8723 Int’l Dr. On the southeast corner of Int’l Drive and Austrian Court. It is open from 8am to 8pm. (407) 363-5872.

Getting There

Orlando is centrally located in Florida. From the northeast coast, take I-95 south to I-4 west. From the north, along I-75, take the Florida Turnpike. Along I-75 from the south, take I-4 east. Finally, from the southeast, take I-95 north to the Florida Turnpike.

Amtrak
Two popular stations; one in Orlando at 1400 Sligh Blvd.(407-843-7611) and one in Kissimmee at 111 Dakin St., one block off Main St. (407- 933-1170).

Greyhound
Bus terminal is located at 555 N. John Young Pkwy. (407) 292-3424.

From the Airport  
Orlando International Airport is located 15 miles from downtown Orlando at One Airport Blvd.  The Lynx public buses only cost $2 and take 40 minutes to downtown Orlando (Pine St. bus terminal). Catch them at Commercial Lane spaces 21-23 on Level 1 on the A side of the Terminal. They depart every 30 to 60 minutes from 6:30am to 8:30pm. Taxis cost from $27 (downtown Orlando) to $40 (Disney World). Shuttle buses cost from $12+.

Getting Around

LYNX  
Serves Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties which includes Orlando. Operates from 5am to midnight. Routes include numerous attractions and tourist areas. Fares are $2. (407) 841-2279

Theme Parks

We may as well get it over with. Here’s a list of all the ‘theme’ parks in Orlando:

Walt Disney World  
It’s that mouse thing. The admission of $75 per day also includes Epcot Center, Magic Kingdom and Disney MGM Studios. Located in Lake Buena Vista off of US 192 or I-4. Opens at 9am. (407)938-3000

Universal Studios Florida  
Another theme park that will cost you $75. What do you get? More rides but with movie and TV themes. State Route 435. Opens at 9am. (407) 363-8000

Sea World of Florida  
Whales, dolphins and turtles, oh my! 7007 Sea World Dr. Opens at 9am and costs (drum roll, please) $75. (407) 351-3600

Wet ‘N Wild  
Now we’re talkin. Water slides, flumes, rapids. 6200 International Dr. Costs a bit less at $44.95 (and they even have a toll free number). (800) 992-WILD

Must See & Do

Church Street Station  
Dare we venture away from WDW? In this downtown Orlando area, you will find restaurants, street performers, theme bars, shops and boutiques. At night, check out Orange Ave. (below).

Orange Avenue  
Nightlife is here! Bars, blues clubs, punk clubs, gay bars and techno-pop nightclubs. Have one or two for Mickey.

A World of Orchids  
Here you will find one of the world's largest orchid displays, including rare species grown right in Florida. Open daily. 2501 Old Lake Wilson Rd. Kissimmee.

Orlando Museum of Art  
American art from the 19th and 20th century. Open Tues to Sat, 9am to 5pm and costs only $8. 2416 Mills Ave.
