Miami offers everything from one of the best nightlife scenes in the world to fabulous beaches to interesting and varied cultural experiences. Miami Beach is where it’s at and where the hostels are. Visitors come here for its great beaches and hot nitghlife. But Miami and nearby areas have much more to offer including alligator spotting and air boating across the Everglades, boating and kayaking. Miami is a great base or starting point to explore Fort Lauderdale, the Everglades or Key West.
Where is Miami
Miami is located 3.5hrs south of Orlando, 30 mins south of Ft. Lauderdale, and 40 minutes north of Florida City/Everglades. From New York, it's about 22-24hrs.
Coach & Rail
Greyhound has five stations in Miami: 2 in downtown Miami, and one each in Bayside, North Miami and South Miami.Amtrak makes two stops in Miami, the Miami International Airport and 8303 NW 37th Street.
From the Airport
“J” Metrobus costs $1.25 o/w and is located outside the lower level of the arrivals building, Concourse E. It ends at 42nd Street where you can transfer to the C or H bus to South Beach/Miami Beach. Shuttle costs $14 to South Beach/Miami Beach. Taxis are a $22 flat rate.
Getting Around
Metrobus is generally, the best way to get around. Fares are $1.25 o/w, $.25 for a transfer. Exact fare is required. Express buses cost $1.50. Metromover this elevated, electric monorail runs a 42-mile loop around downtown Miami for only $.25. The monorail operates between the Omni Center and Brickell Ave., and includes stops at Bayside and Government Center. Excellent views of Biscayne Bay and the city, especially at sunset. Transfers to the Metrorail (see below) cost $1. Metrorail 21-mile, elevated train runs north-south from Hialeah to Dadeland. Costs $1.25 per trip ($.25 to transfer to a Metrobus, free to the Metromover). Tri-Rail great for day-trips. It extends 72 miles from Miami to north of West Palm Beach. Popular stops include Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and Boca Raton.
