Where is New York
3.5hrs south of Boston and 4.5hrs north of Washington DC on I-95, 9 hrs from Toronto, 7 hrs from Montreal.

From the Airport
Public Transport JFK (AirTrain from terminals to the A train to City, $7); LaGuardia (M60 bus to 106th St/Broadway, $2, connect with free transfer to other bus/subway lines); Newark ($14 total, AirTrain to NJ Transit train station to Penn Station, Manhattan). Shuttle Super Shuttle (from JFK/LaGuardia, $19/$15, use coupon code VKTCV for onlines bookings and save $2. Newark Liberty Airport Express (to Grand Central Station, $14). Taxi from JFK flat $45+toll/tip to Manhattan; LGA about $25+tip; Newark is meter+$15+toll/tip ($50+).
Getting Around
MTA (718-330-1234) subway, buses , LIRR and Metro North. Subways and buses operate 24hrs. Always buy a Metrocard to get around (by trip $2, daily $7, weekly $24) as transfers from bus-bus & subway to bus are free.

Museum of Modern Art free Fridays 4-8pm (11 W 53rd St). New York Botanical Gardens free Wed all day & 10am-noon Sat (Bronx, 718-817-8700). Bronx Zoo free Weds (718-367-1010). Staten Island Ferry free (Battery Park terminal). Central Park Park Ranger Office (212-360-2726) offers free tours and activities, stretches from 59th St to 110th St, between Central Park West and Fifth Ave. Washington Square Park people watching (bordered by W 4th St, Mac-Dougal St, Waverly Place and University Place, opposite New York University). Bryant Park movies free Monday evenings during the summer (40-42nd Sts and 6th Ave, 212-768-4242).
Must See & Do
Empire State Building; Statue of Liberty; Village; Harlem; eat a bagel w/cream cheese; eat a hot dog in Central Park; Chinatown & Little Italy.
Money Saving Tips
TKTS (47th St at Bway) half price, same day theater tickets at 3pm for evening shows, noon for matinees. Pick up copy of the free Village Voice every Thursday for events, concerts and goings on. Macy*s (34th St and 7th Avenue) gives out a discount brochure with 10-15% off purchases if you go to their visitor center.
